It is an estimated $9.5 billion industry, and while it can be fun and exciting for many, for some it can become addictive. There are ways to help someone who is addicted to online gambling, but ultimately it is their decision whether or not to seek treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Some states have embraced online gambling while others have banned it. The legality of online gambling in the United States has varied since the Supreme Court ruling overturned PASPA and shifted responsibility for regulation to individual states. Many online gambling websites accept US players, and most allow you to deposit money into your account. This money is used to place bets and winnings are added to your bankroll. When you lose, the casino deducts your losing amount from your bankroll. You can then withdraw your bankroll (with both wins and losses accounted for) or close your account at any time.<\/p>\n<p>People with a gambling addiction may use the activity as an escape from painful emotions, or as a way to pass the time or avoid boredom. Gambling addiction can also be a symptom of mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression. Regardless of the cause, it is important to recognize that gambling addiction is treatable and that recovery can be achieved. Several types of therapy are available for people who have an addiction to online gambling, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing.
