Another example is the United Kingdom Gambling Commission, which has a law that prevents individuals under the age of 18 from participating in online gambling. Some countries restrict online gambling, such as Maharashtra, which has a “Bombay Wager Act” restricting the gambling of residents.<\/p>\n
The United States Department of Justice has also announced that the Wire Act applies to all forms of Internet gambling, a decision that has raised some eyebrows. However, critics claim the move has no legal basis.<\/p>\n
However, a new bill has been introduced in the House that would change the rules for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). The bill, formally known as HR 2046, would require that internet gambling facilities be licensed by the director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. It would also ban the use of financial instruments for internet bets.<\/p>\n
The bill also requires the use of appropriate data security standards, which is a good idea. However, the bill is not likely to prevent many illegal activities.<\/p>\n
